Driscoll ’94 and Patanelli Named Outstanding Advisors of the Year

Dr. Lori Driscoll ’94, Professor and Associate Chair of the CC Psychology Department, and Marla Patanelli, Academic Administrative Assistant in CC’s Political Science Department, were awarded the 2024 Bob Pizzi Outstanding Advisor of the Year Memorial Award. This is a CCSGA award given by students to the faculty or staff member they deem the most helpful advisor.

“Being chosen as a Bob Pizzi Outstanding Advisor of the Year Memorial Award recipient is an honor that deeply touches my heart,” says Patanelli. “This recognition means the world to me, as it comes from the students here at Colorado College. To know my efforts have made an impact on their journey is incredibly fulfilling. Their appreciation and support motivate me to strive for excellence and kindness daily. It has been a privilege to walk alongside such an exceptional group of students.”

There were about 190 students with a Political Science major or minor this year, and Patanelli helped them register for courses, declare the major or minor, and fulfill graduation requirements.

Some advice Patanelli has for CC students is to focus on finding the balance of academics with personal growth, take time to explore their interests, and build relationships.

Dr. Lori Driscoll ’94

“To be acknowledged by students is the most meaningful honor a faculty member can receive,” says Driscoll, who graduated from CC with a degree in Psychology. “I am incredibly fortunate to have a job in which I can share my love of neuroscience and psychology. But what means the most to me is being able to witness students navigate the challenges and rewards of their unique lives.”

Driscoll has approximately 30 official advisees at a time, but often spends time helping unofficial advisees as well.

“My advice to students is this: you will make it to the next step,” Driscoll says. “The obstacles may seem insurmountable, but you grow as you travel, and you become the person you need to be when you arrive. We are here to help!”
